This single strand piece exhibits Red Coral chips. Coral is regarded as a sempiprecious stone despite it being the exoskeletal remains of once living marine polyps. Beads are strung in groupings of 5, representing the 5 senses and elements. The deep red color is associated with the blood of Mother Earth, signifying life and vitality. Glass turquoise beads, symbolizing Father Sky and the clear blue waters, dot the necklace throughout and give it a beautiful contrast. Metal beads finish off the strand with a Silver-plated toggle clasp.

Coral has been used in jewelry for some 25 - 30,000 years. Many people around the Mediterranean, where most of the deep red coral was originally found, used it for personal adornment. The ancient Egyptians and Romans placed high value on it. Native Americans began using coral in jewelry around 600 years ago when the Spanish arrived with it, along with metalwork, as a trade item. Even then its use in Native jewelry was not common and, consequently, it was seen as a sign of wealth and status because of its high value and rarity.

Red Coral is a highly respected material. It's essential to emphasize that Coral is fragile and vulnerable to environmental changes, including over-harvesting, pollution, and climate change. Responsible sourcing and sustainable practices are crucial to preserving the beauty and cultural significance of red coral.

  • To ensure your jewelry's longevity and beauty, always take off before bed and place on a soft surface to protect any natural gemstones. DO NOT WEAR YOUR JEWELRY IN THE WATER, including chlorinated pools, hot tubs, and baths with added soaps or essential oils. If your jewelry gets wet, simply pat dry with a microfiber cloth or towel. Excessive moisture can seep into pourous surfaces and may gradually weaken, dissolve, or cause cracks to appear in the stone.

Avoid prolonged sun exposure while wearing your natural gemstone pieces. UV rays may damage or discolor gemstones over time, especially darker colored materials. If you display your jewelry when not in use, be sure to keep out of direct sunlight, indirect light is fine.
